February Newsletter

Dear Members

Our February 14th Snowmobile Meeting at Swifty’s was cancelled due to the snow storm.  A Board of Directors meeting was called on February 21.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday March 14th at Melody Lodge at 7:00 pm.

Get well goes out to William (Red) Holmes who recently fell ill.  My sources tell me he is back home and recovering well, hope to see him out on the trails soon.  Also it was good to see Ted Kline out and about this weekend at our fireworks/bonfire Sunday.

Our annual Fireworks/bonfire: WOW what a great success, the raffle for this year yielded the club a profit of $10,188.50.  The winner of the raffled 2007 Yamaha was David Naylor of Mt. Vision, N.Y.  Congratulations David, enjoy your new snowmobile.  We would like to thank Rick Swift for getting the 2007 Yamaha through Village Rentals and Yamaha dealership for Pleasant Riders to raffle and we would especially like to thank all the members and businesses that sold/bought tickets for this event and Marie Buanno for selling raffle tickets at the event right up to the drawing; this was by far our best raffle to date.  The winner of our 50/50 drawing of $397 was Joann Bush.  The winner of the Chainsaw Bear auction was Jimmy Gougeon.  We would like to thank Bill Edwards (assisted by John Casey) for the spectacular fireworks display this year, many commented that they were the best to date (where else can you go to witness such a beautiful display of fireworks in February for approx. 25 minutes of grand finales??)-GREAT job Bill.  Thank you to Bob Poe, Kevin Dorr, and Jay Bain for spending the afternoon braving the cold to cook the hot dogs, hamburger and sausage sandwiches that the club provided to those in attendance.  Another thank you to Jean and Thomas Boniface for helping to provide frosty beverages to those who enjoyed the beautiful sunny day out on the deck (COLD but still sunny!). Thank you to Vicki Agramonte, Betsy Bain and Pat Best for volunteering to sell 50/50 tickets during the event.  Thank you Betsy Bain for coordinating this event, seeing to it that all Pleasant Riders groomers were there on display, including the new tracked demo and providing the event with a great chainsaw bear carver team.  We had a fantastic turn out and everyone enjoyed the day and night, there were still people gathered around the fire from the Christmas tree burning when I left at 8:30 pm; and Luke and Mike were still inside providing the remainder of party goers with their music. It’s safe to say that fun was had by all once again this year.

Membership Committee:  Just a reminder that in accordance with NYSSA request, our club will be increasing its annual membership dues to $25 single and $30 family memberships as per my newsletter last May.  For those new members a brief explanation:  NYSSA had requested last year that all snowmobile club memberships be $25 for single and $30 for family memberships.  NYSSA feels that by all recognized clubs charging the same rate it would avoid the need to “shop around” for the best membership deal when joining a club.  It was too late to honor NYSSA’s request last year as we were already receiving renewals on our 2006-07 memberships, so we got permission from NYSSA to wait until this year to honor their request.  Memberships expire August 31, 2007 and the new rate will take effect for the 2007-2008 membership/renewals September 1st.  This new rate will affect anyone planning to renew their membership after April 1st.

New Groomer Purchased:  As we have not yet taken delivery of our new tracked groomer, the dealer has provided the club with a “Demo” tracked groomer with our new drag to use until the new groomer is ready for delivery.  We would like to thank Shawangunk Mountain Snowmobile Club for their $128 donation to our groomer fund.  This money donated was from their 50/50 drawing at their annual club ride dinner at the Oxbow Inn Saturday night (Feb. 10th).

Volunteers Needed: We still need someone to volunteer to head up our annual Adopt-a-highway project.  We have our annual Golf Tournament coming up in June and will need people to volunteer to make the snacks.  We need a committee for the Don Woodin Scholarship in April.  The NYSSA forum is coming up in April; we will need volunteer delegates to attend.  Anyone interested in volunteering for any of the events, please contact Betsy Bain at 518-548-5719 or me at 518-548-2436 and we will put you on the list.

NYSSA Forum:  This event will take place April 13-15th at the Clarion Hotel in Rochester.  Anyone interested in attending please contact Marie Buanno now at 518-548-6002.  The club will pay for your lodging, registration and a dollar amount is allotted for meals and gas.  Registration dollars need to be in at NYSSA by March 15th.

Anyone who has a change of address or E-mail addresses please contact Marie Buanno at 518-548-6002 or me at 518-548-2436 so that we can update our address listing.  Again, anyone who’s receiving a “hard copy” newsletter and would like to have it sent to your e-mail address please contact Marie or me and we will add you to our e-mail address list, therefore saving on postage.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade:  The Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce and the Inn at Speculator have asked our club to participate in this event Saturday, March 17th.  If anyone can get together rather soon to form a float committee, contact Adirondack Speculator Chamber at 518-548-4521 or Neil McGovern at 318-548-3811 ASAP and let them know you are doing it.

Thank You
