January Newsletter

Dear Members

Our Next meeting:  will be held on February 14th at Swifty’s at 7:00 pm.

Our sympathy: Goes out to Theresa Sayward and family, whose son was in a fatal motorcycle accident in Florida the last week of January.  Also our sympathy goes out to the David “Spike” Redmond Family with the loss of his father.

Our January meeting at Zeisers was attended by Jim Jennings from NYSSA.  Jim discussed the issues of trail closures, Jessup River UMP meeting and future meetings to be held regarding Union Management Plan.  Jim encouraged that snowmobile members need to fight to keep existing trails open until new trails are constructed, widening existing trails rather then build new trails to meet the 9’ wide trail plan and to spend less time worrying about groomer funding for small trails that are not considered existing trails that are not on the maps.  Jim discussed the fact that with the new DMV discount rates requiring that snowmobilers join clubs to receive vouchers of proof of membership has strengthened the snowmobilers voice in Albany.  NYSSA has over 32,000 members.

Fireworks/bonfire:  This event is scheduled for February 11th at the Oxbow Inn.  Sledding starts at 2:00pm, the burning of the old Christmas trees starts at 3:00pm, music is from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and the fireworks will begin at 6:00pm. Immediately after the fireworks, the raffle drawing for the 2007 Yamaha snowmobile will be held.  Refreshments are provided by the Pleasant Riders and that also starts at 2:00pm.  Raffle ticket stubs and money should be in no later that Feb 6th.  For any questions please contact Betsy Bain at 518-548-5719.  Those who have volunteered to work this event should be at the Oxbow Inn at 10:00 am. So bundle up the children and come join us for a fun day.

Groomer Committee:  The new groomer has been purchased.  We are working out the final details and expect delivery soon.

Don’t forget the following up-coming events that we will be in need of volunteers for:  Adopt-a-highway, we will need someone to head this up for May.  We have the golf tournament coming up in June and will need people to make the usual snacks.  We will need a committee for the Don Woodin Scholarship in April. The NYSSA forum is coming up in April. We need volunteer delegates to attend.  Anyone interested in volunteering for any of these events please contact Betsy Bain at 518-548-5719 or me at 518-548-2436 and we will put you on our list.

Thank You

Barbara M. Bain, Corresponding Secretary
